Caleb Weir
Caleb is an Atlanta native who has grown up in the city's swimming community. He swam for SwimAtlanta and Providence Christian Academy before competing as an All American for The University of Texas. Since 2016, he has served as Head Coach of SwimAtlanta Georgia Tech. He has coached state champions from age 8 through 18, as well as two USA Swimming Junior National Champions. This past summer marked his fourth return to the USA Swimming Olympic trials, twice as a swimmer and twice as a coach.
Ask Coach Caleb:
[What's your favorite part of summer swimming?]
- My favorite part of summer swimming is RESPECTING THE RIBBIT!
[What was memorable about the 2024 Olympic Trials in Indianapolis this past summer?]
- The most memorable part of the 2024 Olympic Trials meet was definitely Thomas Heilman qualifying for the 100 Butterfly on the last day of the meet to open up two more spots on the roster for a full 26 men from Team USA. For those that were tracking this throughout the week, it was a truly special moment from the youngest member of Team USA!
[What was the hardest set you remember from college swimming?]
- The hardest set I remember from college swimming was the LAST set I ever swam... 100 yard Freestyle with my eyes closed. My coach said; if I could do it with my eyes closed, I was ready to be finished with the sport. Hook Em Horns!
Lindsay Knapp
Lindsay grew up swimming in the Washington DC area where she got her start in coaching on her summer swim team. In college she was involved in the Georgia Tech Swim Club where her individual wins contributed to two national championship team titles. After college she coached at the largest Masters Swim team in New York City, Team New York Aquatics. Upon returning to Atlanta, she has spent the last three years coaching for SwimAtlanta.
Ask Coach Lindsay
[What are your favorite and least favorite events as a swimmer?]
- I loved the 50 fly and the 200 free! I honestly didn’t have a least favorite, I loved to get up and race and go as fast as I could to see my own progress. I did hate races against my younger sister, because she almost always won.
[What's your favorite part of summer swimming?]
- Making memories with friends at the pool. Cheering each other on at meets, learning new things together and, games in the diving well, and the traditions that come with each season are the magic that make summer swimming so special and bring us all back to the pool each year, even on the long, hot days.
[If I'm not on the pool deck, I'm most likely.....]
- At a Georgia Tech sporting event or a concert. I love to love the Yellow Jackets and have been a season ticket holder for Football and Basketball for (almost) every year since I started at Tech! If I’m not there, I’m probably at a concert. I love to find up and coming acts at smaller venues around the city, but I also never miss a chance to see Taylor Swift or Post Malone.
Mike Mahroum
Coach Mike is the Head Age Group Coach at Swim Atlanta Georgia Tech, currently in his 8th season with the team. With nearly a decade of coaching experience, Mike has guided swimmers to achieve their goals at both State and National levels. This past summer, he coached at the U.S. Paralympic Trials in Minneapolis. Also, he was honored to be selected as a coach for the 2021 and 2022 Georgia Zones Age Group/Senior Team. He also coached for the Garden Hills Cool Sharks in 2022 and 2023, where the team was undefeated. Before his time with Swim Atlanta, he coached at the Athens Bulldogs Swim Club and West Hall High School Swim Team. Mike also holds a degree in Sports Management from Kennesaw State University.
[What's your favorite part of summer swimming?]
- My favorite thing about summer swim is seeing how much improvement a swimmer can make in such a short time frame. It is very rewarding to see as a coach.
- Well, of course, I am a huge Atlanta sports fan! At the college level, I am a proud KSU fan GO OWLS! My least favorite team would have to be anyone who beats the Falcons.
[Outside of Coaching, what are you interested in doing this summer?]
- Outside of coaching this summer, I'm pumped to catch some baseball games (Go Braves!) and work on my tan!
